There was a crime committed in the Year 5 classroom! We had our art resources trashed and our book corner left in a tip. The person who committed the crime left some clues behind and we are working hard to find the culprit.
The criminal left behind some charcoal covered footprints. Our first task was to carry out a test measuring feet size and height in order to make a prediction on the possible height of the criminal. We were invited back to the Royal Albert Hall to share our models with other schools who took part in the project.
We also met the man who designed the kit we used to make our models! We had visits from Rolls Royce engineers who work with engines in aeroplanes. We were able to hold part of an engine.
The engineers also helped us construct out stage models. We went to All Hallows church where we all took part in a play set during the Anglo Saxon period. We had to help the characters in the play solve problems they were encountering.
We also wrote our name in Anglo Saxon runes using quill and ink and also saw the remains of Anglo Saxon buildings. We had a visit from an author called Gareth P Jones who talked about his books and what inspired him to write. He also sang songs about his books!
We had to thread a needle correctly and then we learnt different stitches such as- backstitch, cross-stitch and the chain stitch.
As part of our Evolution DT project, we watched the Cirque Du Soleil ‘Totem’ show at the Royal Albert Hall.
We saw many acts such as gymnasts, unicyclists, hoop dancers, trapezists and many more. We also experienced travelling on the tube during London’s rush hour! We made our own fraction wall to help us understand fractions better. It allowed us to spot equivalent fractions easily and also identify which fractions were larger/smaller.
We learnt all about palaeontology and how dinosaur fossils have been discovered and studied. These fossils have helped us learn more about dinosaurs.
We carried out an investigation being palaeontologists. We had to take the fossils (chocolate chips) out of the ground (cookie). We had to be very gentle and patient in order to preserve the ‘fossil’. |
