Year 2 took part in their final music rehearsal session today with members from Apollo 5 in preparation for their live performance. They will be joining other schools and the rest the Apollo 5 choir to put on a collaborative show next week.
Year 2 created some amazing camouflage-themed art work during their art lessons. They used a mixture of oil pastels and collage materials to create animal skin that could 'camouflage' itself against a background. Please check out our display outside the Year 2 classroom.
On Thursday 15th of November Year 2 dressed up to raise money for Children in Need 2018. I'm sure that you'll agree that it was a great turn-out - the children looked amazing! Many thanks to all of Year 2 and their parents for making such an effort and supporting this cause.
Year 2 have just begun a new topic called 'Friends & Family' in PSHE. We spent our first session discussing 'friendship' and then completed the sentence "A good friend will..." during our circle-time activity. We finished our session by drawing amazing pictures to demonstrate what we can 'do' with our friends.
Year Two have been learning about 'algorithms' in their computing lessons.
We watched a short video that explained what they are before starting to make our own based on the short task of 'getting ready for a cold outdoor play'. We began by working in pairs to play a 'Human Robot' game - this was lots of fun!. We then produced written instructions for carrying out the task before converting these into 'computer speak'. Autumn 1 was a great half term for Year 2.
We visited the Natural History Museum and learned lots about animals that are alive or now extinct. Year 2 took part in the first of several workshops with Gregg and Oliver from the Apollo 5 choir.
They learned to use their voices to beat box different sounds and practised singing in different pitches. They also began to learn the lyrics of some new songs ready for their forthcoming performance... watch this space! In Music we have been learning 'pitch' means how 'high' or 'low' a sound is.
We have been starting our music lessons by tapping out the beat to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" on our bodies- the children love this part! We have been learning how to create and follow pitch lines so that we know when and how to change the sounds that we make with our voices. We have also learnt the lyrics to the song "Nosy Dog" and have been trying hard to sing the words in the right 'pitch'. In Year 2 we are learning about the different ways that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) showed kindness to animals. We learnt that Prophet Muhammad was considered a great leader to many people and that he is very special to Muslims. We learnt that people tell stories about him to demonstrate his good character and to set an example for others to follow.
We watched two stories about Prophet Muhammad's treatment of animals (pbuh); Prophet Muhammad and the Ants & Prophet Muhammad and the Crying Camel. We then wrote about how each story demonstrated Prophet Muhammad's love and kindness for animals. "In Year 1 we made some street food for the Summer Fair."
"We made Pineapple Chutney and special Cous Cous!" " We used ingredients such as peppers, pineapples and chickpeas!" |
