Just a quick look back at the children enjoying pond dipping. The children became Scientists for the day and learned how to safely scoop insects from the pond. They then took the insects inside and used a micro - scope to look closely at insects features
Year 2 have been enjoying their gymnastics lessons. They have been learning to travel across different apparatus using a range of techniques.
Year 2 began their 'Dressing Up' art project today. We looked at a range of fabric prints and patterns and found out the names for some of them.
The children selected a few of their favourite patterns and tried to recreate them in their sketchbooks. We will complete them next week where we will also be using describing words and key vocabulary to label them. Year 2 have been spending some time playing an online 'dress-up' game. They then had to use describing words, key vocabulary and sentence starters to explain how to play the game to an alien who had come from the planet 'Zog'. Next week we will be comparing real-life v. online games.
Year 2 have started a new topic in RE. We are learning all about the different sorts of celebrations and festivals that people may celebrate; both religious and non-religious.
They had so many brilliant ideas - they are now on display on our class brainstorming sheet. The children then chose their favourite 'celebration' and created a 'mind map' of it to explore it futher. Here are the children making a start on their mind maps. We will complete them next week. We will be moving on to explore the Christian celebration of 'Easter' shortly - please keep an eye out for the photos. Year 2 have begun their new topic 'Computer Games' during their Computing lessons this half term. They have learnt how to use the touch pads on their laptops to use the 'drag and drop' function as well as how to delete anything if they make a mistake or change their minds.
Here they are creating their very own simple animated scenes using Purple Mash. They learnt how to create their own backgrounds and 'stickers' and how to add animation and audio to them. Here are Year 2's completed food portraits - can you guess who is hiding behind the self-portraits?
I am sure you will agree that Year 2 have done a fantastic job of working in the style of Arcimboldo! Well done Year 2 - you should all be very proud of yourselves! Year 2 began their double practical art session today after researching the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo before the Christmas break.
They watched a short tutorial to show them how to create a portrait in the style of Arcimboldo before generating their 'Steps To Success' as a class. They then used mirrors to look at their facial features before selecting fruit and veg photos to cut out and arrange on a black background to resemble their own faces. As you can see, the children got 'very' busy creating their portraits whilst also practising their cutting and collage skills. Watch this space for their finished portraits later this week! Year 2 have begun their exciting art project for this half term by researching the historic artist 'Giuseppe Arcimboldo' who became famous for creating portraits out of food and other interesting things.
The children watched two short videos to find out some facts about him before studying some of his famous pieces of work. They then annotated their favourite painting in their sketchbooks. We will be creating our own Arcimboldo-style food portraits soon - watch this space! Year 2 explored the online coding activity 'J2Turtle' during todays computing session. They found out what a 'sprite' was and had to explore the program to find out what each of the buttons did. They then recorded their findings on their key.
The children ended the session by trying to get their rocket 'sprite' to place flags on the planets in the correct order and then wrote down the coding instructions which allowed them to do so. The children acted and looked very mature whilst using their laptops! |
